The Handiwork Ministry invites all who enjoy handiwork, or those who would like to learn to knit or crochet, to join us at the St. Agnes Church office, 108 Prospect Street, Avon. 2008 Meetings Dates: May 28, June 25, July 30, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 29, and Nov. 19. GVFAG offers a forum for exchange of information and inspiration among its members, to educate, develop, and promote the fiber arts. Members have interest in a variety of fiber arts, including knitting, crochet, quilting, beading, weaving, tatting, sewing, making handmade books to name a few. Skill levels vary from amateur to experienced, and members willingly share their expertise and encouragement.  Places to Visit Genesee Valley Greenway
The Greenway follows the abandoned path of the Genesee Valley Canal and the Pennsylvania Railroad. It is approximately 12' wide, generally unpaved and not smooth, primarily packed dirt with sections of cinders or grass. Open for walking, jogging, biking, bird watching, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling (with some limitations in certain restricted areas). He has traveled to China, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Japan, India, Sicily, Africa, Turkey,Greece, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and throughout the United States in his quest for unusual photographs. Bud has had over 300 different photographs accepted in international competitions and is a Fellow in the Kodak Camera Club and the Third Dimension Society in England. He's won many photographic awards and is rated a Four Star competitor in stereo, and a Three Star in photojournalism by the Photographic Society of America. His years of interest in Toastmasters International provide the background for teaching photography, lecturing throughout the US and on photographic theme cruises. The Rochester Institute of Technology awarded Bud a degree in Color Illustration and Commercial Photography and he has a degree from the University of Rochester. Free. Enjoy a lecture by Thomas Patti, a widely respected artist and studio glass pioneer who has devoted much of his career to researching different formulations of glasses and hot-forming techniques. He led the way in the exploration of industrial and architectural glass as a sculptural medium. Over the last 35 years, he has used glass to build and define spaces that transform surface, light, and color, fusing layers of glass with bubbles and other spatial elements into unique works. Join in a game of 1864 baseball with members of our gentlemen and ladies teams at Silver Base Ball Park. Join visitors of all ages from 12 to 4 on the Great Meadow as they transform cardboard boxes into their favorite buildings and “Build-A-Village.” Paint, brushes, markers and friendly staff to create doors and windows will be available. Several mini concerts by regional bands that feature the accordion, as well as a “round the world” presentation of accordion and concertina music from Italian, Irish, Polish, Eastern European, and Old Time traditions. New this year will be some “open mike” sessions, for anyone who has a squeezebox and wants to share some tunes. Look for displays of historical accordions and resources for accordion repairs and maintenance—your questions are welcome.
